DrShoeMom is back with several exciting changes since our last post! Hmmmm…. Where to begin?

1.  DrShoeMom.com now has a store with all my picks for both moms and kids.  You can see our new site at www.drshoemom.com.  So go shoe shopping and know that all shoes featured on my site have been personally recommended by me for being both stylish and
comfy.

2.  We are in process of posting articles about kids and moms FEET.  Topics already posted range from in-grown toenails to sweaty feet to bunions.  You can see our articles section here: http://drshoemom.com/articles/.  Additional articles will be posted soon. I am so excited to share this information with my DrShoeMom readers.  Besides wearing comfortable shoes, there are other important things we can do to take care of our kids feet as they are growing.

3.  My friend, Nicole, and I just launched a great iPad app called Foot Fairy. She is a therapist (and mother of 4) and wanted to find a stress free method to measure her children’s feet.  I, of course, want to ensure that they are wearing the proper shoe size.  Two glasses of wine later and Foot Fairy was born.  Simply put your child’s foot against the screen and it automatically scans your kid’s foot and tells you
his/her shoe size (up to size 13 ½).  It’s fun and easy and our kids love it!  Directly from the app, you can then go shopping on Zappos or send an email with all the relevant information.  You can learn more about it at www.footfairy.com or on the app store by searching for Foot Fairy.

Sanuk Kids I’m Game (Sizes 10-6)

My husband lives in these shoes (not the zebra pattern, thank goodness) and he only cares about comfort (I try to help him in the style department but sometimes it just seems like a lost cause). I just found out they are making these in kid sizes and I am super excited. My daughter’s friend was wearing them in pink and informed me that she loves them and can wear them all day. Sanuks are the perfect summer camp shoe. Cute, stylish, cool, closed toe and comfy. I really want a pair too – they are sitting in my zappos shopping cart as I am writing this…

These loafer shoes are made out of canvas upper with frayed cotton detailing. It has a synthetic outsole that is light weight.  It closes with a hook and loop on the side of the shoe.

Contramao Kids 185-1630 (Sizes 10-7)

I love this sandal and I especially love that they are made in Brazil. I also manufacture our Planet Flops in Brazil.  The quality really does show in this shoe. I showed them to my older daughter and her eyes nearly popped out of her head she loved them so much. I think even Suri (Katie and Tom Cruise’s daughter) and Danielle (my younger daughter’s 4 year old bff) would give up their heels for these. Please, for Dr. ShoeMom, give up the heels til you are 20. Thanks.

This shoe upper is made out of leather with a decorative bow on the side. There is a side zipper to put on and off easily. The sole is made out of rubber and is flexible.

Nike Kids Glide 2 (Sizes 10.5-12.5)

This is a great looking sneaker for girls and a great price for Nike. I love dark colored sneakers since it hides the dirt that kids tend to accumulate on their sneakers.  I also lately am going through a sneaker phase where I literally want to wear them all the time to every occasion.   The other day, even my husband, who is probably the most casual understated dressed man in town, was like “honey it’s Saturday night, you may want to wear dressier shoes.”  So this week, I was on a quest to find cool sneaks for kids.

This sneaker has a breathable mesh upper with two way stretch for ventillation and comfort. It has a lace up closure and the bottom is made out of rubber.

Nike Kids Airmax Command (Sizes 3.5-7)

Yes, another sneaker by Nike. I just gotta have ‘em and I am not the only one. Last Friday evening, we were driving back home from a family picnic at the park organized by my girls’ school and we drove by the Nike store on Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills.  There was a huge line outside, so we stopped to ask what was going on.  They were literally camping out for the latest Jordans that were scheduled to go on sale at midnight!  Clearly there are some who are even more commited than I am to finding the most stylish and comfortable shoes.

This is a great looking retro style shoe made out of leather upper and mesh underlay. It closes with laces and has a durable rubber outsole.

Canvas Bow Ballet Flat (Sizes 10.5- 4.5)

Back to Payless to find some great affordable shoes to recommend this week and my eldest daughter found these. The price is so right. And they are so cute!  She wanted me to buy her a pair right away (occupational hazzard).  I agreed to add these to her ballet shoe collection.

This shoe is made out of manmade materials and has a chunky grommeted bow. The outsole is lightweight which adds to the comfort of this shoe. The color is a soft stonewash. There is a military feminine look to this shoe that I am sure most girls will love.

Girl’s Cozy Shimmer Sandals (Sizes 10-5)

J. Crew, can you please make me these in my size. I am in love. Birkenstock style with beautiful glitter – it is just fabulous. I ordered these for both my daughters and they both love them. I cannot wait for the weather to warm up so they can actually wear them.

This shoe is made with a molded leather footbed and a durable rubber sole.  The upper is made out of canvas with beautiful gold glitter.

Stride Rite Lanette MJ Lighted (Sizes 7-11.5)

This shoe was an elevator find. What that means is if you are a mom who writes about kids’ and moms’ shoes you are on a constant search for good looking comfortable shoes. One of my many places to find these is in the elevator on our way up or down in my daughter’s preschool. I know I can be annoying especially first thing in the morning when I am inquiring about a make of a shoe and want to examine it -but hey, drshoemom got a do what she’s got a to do find these shoes. This shoe is great because it lights up in the heel and is comfortable. Toddlers just love light up shoes (as I am sure you know).

This shoe comes in silver and violet and is made with a leather upper. The outsole is made out of rubber.  It closes with a hook and loop.

Children’s Place Disco Sandal (Sizes 11-5)

Children’s Place does it again with a fabulous looking sandal just in time for spring.  My older daughter loves the blue and my younger daughter loves the hot pink. I just totally think of a white sun dress, these sandals and a straw hat with my girls sitting on the beach watching the sunset. Wake up! Reality Check!  More like white t-shirt, shorts, playing at our local park whining for the ice cream truck – but hey, at least they will have cute affordable sandals.

These sandals are made of faux leather upper and have a rubber outsole with a cushioned insole. The shoe closes with a zipper in the back and comes in turquoise blue or hot pink with a silver metallic underlay.

Hunter Kids First SP 11 (Sizes 9-13)

 

On the subject of rain, Los Angeles has definitely been hit hard.  I was wondering lately if I moved to Seattle and didn’t even know it.  We have had so much gloomy weather. Where has the LA sun gone??

I was at my kid’s preschool on Friday and a little girl who I always notice because she has the same hair color as my daughter was wearing these boots in hot pink.  Her entire outfit was just so cute. A black and white long sweater, black leggings, these boots and a hot pink ribbon in her hair that I recognized from American Girl store at the Grove.  I wish I had a picture of her to post because it was just so perfect and brought some sunshine to that gloomy day. I just had to recommend these boots after seeing her!

Hunter boots are made by hand with 28 individual parts and with great attention to detail. I have a pair and love them!  This boot is made of natural rubber. It’s built on an orthopedic last for added comfort for toddler feet.

Ragg Kids Amelia (Sizes 8-12) 

A couple weeks ago my younger daughter was having one of her many playdates with her friend Danielle. I picked them up from school and decided that my daughter needed a new pair of shoes. She is the fussiest shoe wearer I have ever met (probably what motivated me to write this blog). I thought her shoe wardrobe was, quite frankly, embarassing, particularly since she is Dr. ShoeMom’s daughter! Every day she wears her tsukihoshi sneakers and, while I do love that brand, it was time to invest in another pair of shoes. So the three of us were off to the Beverly Hills Brooks shoe store. As every mom knows, it’s not an easy feat to shop with a toddler.  Shopping with two toddlers who are bff’s-well, I definitely needed a nap and/or a glass of wine after that excursion)! After literally pulling off every shoe on the shelf, the two girls picked this pair.  And yes I approved, as they are very comfortable and so adorable. Mission accomplished!!

This mary jane is made out of textile with sequins and flower appliques. There is a cushioned insole and they close with a hook and loop. The outsole is rubber. It comes in silver and pink.

Girls Xhilaration Natausha Ballet Flat Shoes (Sizes 12-5)

Happy Valentines Day!!! This shoe is in the spirit of the day and at this price you don’t have to think twice about purchasing it for your daughter even if she only wears it on Valentine’s Day!  I love red year round, and I think looks great with any outfit. This is a great ballet flat from Target. I see so many girls wearing various colors and designs of the xhiliration ballet flat. They are very comfortable and stylish!

This flat is made out of faux leather with a rubber non-marking  sole. It has a metallic finish to the red color (so cool). It’s a slip on for easy on and off.

Kid Express Bjork (Sizes 10-4.5)

I saw these and had to order them for my younger daughter who was in desperate need of new shoes. She has worn out all of her pairs. She loves them and so do I.  I love the detachable ankle cuff because you can achieve 2 looks in one shoe (conservative and hippish).  They come in black, brown and hot pink.  We bought the brown.

This shoe is made out of leather upper and lined in leather. The detachable ankle cuff closes with a hook and loop. The outsole is made out of a textured rubber.

Tsukihoshi Speed (Sizes 8-12)

I just love this brand. My friend bought her daughter a few pairs of tsukihoshi sneakers based on my earlier recommendation.  She loves that she can safely buy any style of this brand and know that they meet my seal of approval. She also told me that she notices her daughter walks and runs better when she is in her tsukihoshi sneakers.

This week, I picked this style because I have been looking for a gold sneaker for my younger daughter. I plan on ordering these for her. She will love the pink and I will love the gold. Both mom and daughter will be happy and her feet will be comfy.

This sneaker tends to run wide so probably better for a wider foot type. It closes with a hook and loop closure. There is green tea infused insole to prevent the growth of bacteria. The sneaker is ultra light weight and ultra flexible.  Also comes in pink, purple, blue and silver.
